Wrestling is an extreme, multifaceted sport, with its advantages and disadvantages. Although any sport has its advantages and disadvantages, wrestling has much more extreme cons. Wrestling requires a tough mental state, as it can be very extreme to your mental state. Discipline is a very big deal, as you still have to keep your dignity after losing. Wrestlers often face a lot of stress from defeat and adversity.

This tough mental state can be valuable for later in life. And allow you to be calm in an otherwise stressful situation. Athletes also have to set up goals for themselves, and it requires a lot of training and determination to get up a goal and finish it. Due to wrestling being an extreme sport, the bonds between teammates can end up having a much longer and deeper impact. Although all sports have good qualities, the cons are much more extreme in this sport.

For example, risk of injury is much more common. Fractures, sprains, concussions, and even more. Since this sport is close contact, it’s much easier to earn an injury. These injuries can and will have long term effects later in life. One of the most significant cons in wrestling is weight cutting. These weight reduction techniques can have long lasting effects on the athlete’s body. Weight cutting within a short span of time can cause eating disorders and destruction to the nervous system. Athletes are also known to throw up during practice due to overworking. Then they are expected to act like nothing happened. This is extremely unhealthy, and athletes need time to heal. This goes had in hand with weight cutting. It involves rapid weight loss, including dehydration, extreme dieting and sometimes even saunas.

Overall, even though this sport has some positive aspects, the negative aspects of this sport over-weigh the pros. This extreme sport is favored for how hard it is, but that doesn’t mean that our athletes have to suffer. Their health may be compromised in pursuit of success, and it is essential for the coaches to prioritize the well-being of their wrestlers.
