Drill Hosts Region 13 Championships
Region 13 drill was held on Wednesday, January 18th at 5:00 pm in the large gym. The Larietts competed against Ben Lomond, Layton Christian, Morgan, Ogden, and South Summit.
“We all came together and worked hard to get there,” said McKinly Collier, freshman.
There are several different categories that drill teams must compete in for their region: military, dance, and showcase as well as receiving an overall score. The Larietts placed: 2nd in military, 3rd in dance, 3rd in showcase, and 3rd overall.
“I think we performed really amazing, we did have a setback with one of our teammates getting injured, but we worked our way around it and really came together as a team,” said Jessie Albright, junior.
Hosting a region drill competition is a rare occasion due to its rotation of schools, this is the first time Grantsville has hosted since 2017.
“I think having it here for my first year is quite life-changing, it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because we never get to have drill here in Grantsville, especially region,” said Albright.
With Region ending, the Larietts now look forward to their state competition and placements.
“My favorite part about region drill is that we were all able to come together and help our teammates, being able to be a part of that was really cool,” said Sophia Nelson, freshman.
The Larietts are currently ranked 8th in the ratings power index (RPI), that RPI ranking will determine seating and placement in the state competition. The state semi-finals will be held Thursday, February 2nd from 9 am-4 pm at the UCCU Center, Utah Valley University. State finals will be held the following day starting at 9 am, also at the UCCU Center.
