Barbie. Not the doll, the movie. Released on July 21, 2023, the film was all the rage even before it came out. The color pink ruled the world. It’s full of adventure, excitement, and classic Barbie references. However, the message is not what you think it’d be.
There are many opinions about the movie. Not only is it aware of a woman’s role in the world, but it shows us what it would be like to switch gender roles in society. The movie is a beautiful masterpiece from the cinematography to the music. Despite this, many people still have different opinions about the film.
Bailee Van Wagner, a freshman, says, “I thought it was really good and really woman-empowering. I also liked how Ken found himself too. I didn’t just show that Barbie is perfect and amazing. It was also that Barbie actually became real. The movie shows that she has depression and struggles with real issues.”
This makes Barbie much more relatable than she has in the past. She struggles with real problems in the movie making her more human than an idea.
Dyllan Stevenson thinks the overall message of the movie is that everyone has a breakthrough. Ken and Barbie have their own breakthroughs in the movie and find themselves in a spectacular way.
The movie is a must watch full of good vibes and good energy. If you haven’t seen it, it’s definitely a must-watch of 2023.
