Grantsville High School has recently announced its casts for the upcoming production of “The Odd Couple”! This classic Neil Simon comedy promises to be a highlight of the school year and gives the theatre department a chance to do something new. The director, advisor to the theatre department, and teacher, Mrs Hintz, has decided to do two different adaptations for this production. The Blue cast will perform the original play while the Pink cast will perform the Female version. Let’s take a closer look at the talented casts that will bring the touching moments and hilarity of this tale to life on the GHS stage.
The Blue Cast Leads:
Oscar Madison: Heading off this incredible cast is none other than GHS senior, Coulter Thomsen playing the charismatic and disorderly Oscar Madison. Coulter is known for his impeccably timed improvisation moments and immeasurable and contagious energy. Ready to take on the role of the sloppy sportswriter, he’s no stranger to the stage having had 7 years of theatre experience. “I am excited for this show! It’ll be nice to do a smart comedy with a small cast, it’s definitely different from our usual!” shared Coulter. He plans to play the character as “carefree” but also show his “needy” and lonely moments.
Felix Unger: Starring beside Coulter is the role of the orderly and obsessively neat Felix Unger, portrayed by talented senior, Jakob Bowman. Jakob’s acting skills and ability to portray the OCD tendencies of Felix make him a perfect fit for the character. Jakob plans on using the character’s quirky aspects to “really make the audience laugh”. He also intends to show the audience more of the character’s vulnerabilities that make him relatable.
The Supporting Cast:
- Murray: Portrayed by Coulten D’Arnall, Murray is Oscar’s poker buddy and police friend. Coulten’s boundless energy and love for the show will definitely make this character shine.
- Roy: The role of Roy, another one of Oscar’s poker buddies, will be played by Quinn Shinney. Quinn is eager to showcase their talents onstage and use them to bring the character to life.
- Speed: Another member of Oscar’s poker gang, Speed, will be played by Sean Rambow. Speed is often portrayed as irritable and sarcastic which will be no easy task for the kind-natured Sean.
- Vinnie: The quiet and mild-mannered accountant will be played by Ben Brown. His natural warmth and confidence on the stage made him a standout choice for the role.
- Gwendolyn and Cecily Pidgeon: These British sisters, who live upstairs from Oscar and Felix, will be played by Taylor Fowlke and Alexius Pyne. Their presence on stage will add a lot more hilarity to the show.
The Pink Cast Leads:
Olive Madison: Leading the Pink Cast is the bubbly and witty Olive Madison played by senior, Shelby Peterson. Shelby’s incredible acting range and impeccable comedic timing make her the ideal choice for this role. “I resonate with her and I would love to make her come alive in my own way on the stage.” shared Shelby. “I’m also really looking forward to being onstage with some of my closest friends that I have done theatre with for so many years and being able to interact with them for my final year and being able to see how much I’ve grown as well as them”. It’s very obvious that Shelby cannot wait to perform this year’s fall show and make it a memorable experience for all.
Florence Unger: Opposite Shelby is the unstable and extremely tidy Florence Unger portrayed by the talented senior, Aubrey Ewer. Aubrey’s incredible ability to convey Florence’s quirks and anxieties adds depth to the character. Aubrey wants to play Florence in a way that is “true to her character”. As well as to “show the innermost parts of Florence, from her need to always be clean to her unstable personality”. Aubrey is very excited to be a part of this year’s production and hopes that you will be too.
The Supporting Cast:
- Sylvie: Portrayed by the charismatic Shalyss Mounts, Sylvie is Olive’s fun-loving and outspoken friend. Shalyss’s energy and presence are sure to light up the stage.
- Mickey: The role of Mickey, another of Olive’s friends, will be brought to life by Carissa Luna-Truillo. Carissa’s natural humour and charm make her an excellent fit for this character.
- Vera: Vera, the gentle and kind-hearted friend, will be played by Sabrina Schoenfeld. Sabrina’s ability to convey warmth and sincerity adds depth to her character.
- Renee: The role of Renee, a close friend of Olive, will be portrayed by Leah Walters. Leah’s hilarious yet kind personality promises to captivate the audience.
- Manolo: Manolo, a handsome and very well-groomed man who has an interest in Florence, will be played by Cameron Gardner. Cameron’s loud personality and ability to display a wide range of emotions is what set him apart from the rest for this role.
- Jesus: The younger brother to Manolo, Jesus, who is equally as handsome will be portrayed by Buddy Atkinson. Buddy is eager to have a role in this show and plans to portray the character as best he can.
