Hozier, Cat Stevens, and Mumford & Sons are all an inspiration to Vermont native and Indie Folk writer Noah Kahan. He started writing music when he was eight years old and uploaded it to YouTube and SoundCloud. Ever since then, he has gained a super popular following of all ages.
He signed onto Republic Records in 2017 and released his hit single, “Hurt Somebody.” He has released 3 albums within 6 years.
Kahan’s single, “Stick Season” became a breakthrough in his career as the song was streamed over 3 million times on Spotify, and earned number 1 on the US Top Alternative Album (Billboard.) He was also nominated for Best New Artist at the 66th Grammy Awards.
In an interview with Today he says, “In love with being noticed, but afraid of being seen, I feel that’s a really big part of my life for the past year. I’ve really enjoyed the attention of people knowing my music and hearing me and coming to see me. But I also am really scared of being exposed to be a fraud.”
The artist is now collaborating with others on his already-released songs. These include Post Malone, Lizzy McAlpine, Hozier, Gracie Abrams, and Kacey Musgraves.
Country troubadour Zach Bryan has also featured him on his song, “Sarah’s Place.”
Noah Kahn has proven to have his lyrics raw and relatable—his music is chilly and nostalgic.
Hallie Voge, senior, says, “I love how he takes the time to create a story with his music, especially in his Stick Season album. I think that he has grown so popular in the past couple of years because he has a way of writing lyrics and expressing his feelings through the music, that everyone can relate to.”
Right now he is on his Stick Season tour and plans to continue in 2024.
