Breaking Stereotypes

What are highschoolers biggest fears in high school? Not graduating? Getting bullied? Not making friends? Getting pregnant? Having no plan after graduating? Well, for Emma Thacker only one of those was a worry for her. Emma got pregnant sophomore year of highschool.

Emma has beat the stereotype of teen moms in highschool. Emma was never supposed to be able to have children so she pushed harder, literally,  instead of dropping out. She went the hardest she’s ever gone just for school. She goes to Grantsville High, The CLC, and Utah State. She will be graduating early as a junior with 2 certifications in medical assisting and medical math.

Emma strives to break the stereotype of not finishing school and not being able to provide for her kid. She wants her child to grow up having an even better childhood than she did. She doesn’t want her to grow up thinking everything you get is given to you.

Emma works 2 jobs as well as President of Hope squad, Youth City Council, taking college classes, and getting certified with two things by graduation.

Hers and Lee Maile’s baby, Koa-lelei, is now 3 months old. She loves food and never wants to miss out. She suffers from fomo when she’s not out and about with others. She only takes 1 to 2 naps a day and hates laying down. In the month she was born Emma worked ahead and finished all of her classes 2 weeks before school had ended. Her parents were disappointed in the situation, but proud of what she made it out to be. That is Emma Thacker for ya.
